The Benefits of Wearing 100% Cotton

Wearing cottonIn this blog I am going to write about some of the benefits of wearing cotton. If you’re not already aware, Harvey-Paul designs beautiful 100% cotton women’s shirts. Harvey-Paul is dedicated to creating durable and high quality shirts. Here are some of the many advantages of wearing cotton.
Cotton is the most used natural fiber in the world. It has many advantages, such as its ability to control moisture, insulate and provide comfort. It is also hypoallergenic, weatherproof and is an exceptionally durable fabric.
Moisture Control
Cotton is a very breathable fabric and allows moisture to be wicked away from the body. It is also extremely absorbent and can easily remove perspiration from the skin. Cotton can hold up to one fifth of its weight in water before it even begins to feel damp, which makes it the ideal material to wear when heading away on holidays.

Cotton is a brilliant insulator. It provides thermal insulation which means that it acts as though it has a dual purpose. In the winter in helps you retain your body heat keeping you nice and snug, however in the summer its breath-ability means that you can remain effortlessly cool. The “science” behind this is that the fibres manage to capture air between them which helps with insulation and comfort. Cotton is a great asset to have in your wardrobe as wearing cotton means that on those days when the Irish weather blesses us with all the four seasons in the space of half an hour you are totally prepared.

As cotton is such a natural fabric it rarely causes an allergic reaction. It is very soft and tends not to cause any skin irritations. In fact people with irritable skin are recommended to wear cotton as it is so gentle. Most baby clothes and medical bandages are made of cotton as it’s hypoallergenic.

Cotton is such a comfortable item of clothing and can stretch with ease. That is one of the reasons that Harvey-Paul shirts are made from 100% cotton. It is also easy to wash and iron, (to read more on taking care of a Harvey-Paul shirt, checkout our other blogs.), compared to polyester. When you iron out cotton it goes back to looking like brand new! Cotton also has the added bonus of being far more comfortable and kinder to your skin.

Cotton is very strong and durable. It less likely to tear due to this. It can also withstand numerous amounts of washing while still looking as good as new! This means that you can get years and years out of your favorite shirt without it losing its new sheen.

Cotton is a biodegradable fabric which means that it will decompose naturally. Other fabrics like polyester are made of plastic which makes it nearly impossible for it to biodegrade. Cotton is an Eco-friendly cloth. So you will not only look fabulous but you will have the peace of mind that you are doing good for the environment.

If you were to compare cotton to another fabric like polyester you would be able to see the difference between the two of them. Here are some of the comparisons.

• Breathable
• Natural fibers
• Hypoallergenic
• Eco-friendly
• Durable

• Can feel sticky
• Temperature sensitive
• Not as breathable
• Prone to colour bleeding

From this you can clearly see that cotton is the better choice.
Those are some of the many advantages to wearing cotton. As I said before Harvey–Paul is absolutely dedicated to providing you with stylish, durable and comfortable shirts. They are designed to last and are made from 100% cotton.
